Task providers in the web portal

Use a desktop or CLI host's task-provider connections from the web without giving the portal a provider credential.

The web portal uses a desktop or CLI host as the task-provider owner. The host holds the provider credential and performs provider requests. The portal does not offer a token field and does not keep a copy of the credential.

Choose the owning host

Open Tasks, select an external provider, and use the host picker to choose the machine that owns its connection. The instance and container selectors then show the connected accounts and repositories available through that host.

The same host picker appears in Settings > Plugins. Settings is read-only for remote credentials: it shows provider readiness, connected instances, authentication status, and errors, and offers no connection controls at all. The page tells you that credentials are managed on the selected host.

Manage credentials on the owning host. For GitHub, use Git Forge settings in the desktop app or glueprint forge on a CLI host.

What works in the portal

Once the host is online and ready, the portal provides the same external task workflow as desktop:

  • Provider, host, instance, and container selection.
  • Presets, text search, status and label filters, and pagination.
  • Task details and comments.
  • Supported status changes, assignment, comments, and task creation.
  • Starting or opening a linked session on the owning host.
  • Source links with provider, host, and container query parameters.

Credential entry is the main difference from desktop. The portal can use a connection and report its state, but only the owning host can configure its secret.

Plans

Portal task-provider access is cross-host control and requires a Pro plan or higher. If the account is not eligible, the portal shows This feature requires a Pro plan or higher. and does not send a provider request. If the host refused an earlier request but the account is now eligible, Re-check can make a fresh request after the plan change. See Plans and limits.

Offline and last-known data

If the selected host is offline before the first load, the Tasks view says HOST is offline. and asks you to reconnect it or choose another host.

If the portal already loaded tasks or task details, it keeps that data visible under Showing last-known tasks. while the host, encryption, or client connection is unavailable. Provider changes and fresh pages stay disabled because the portal cannot verify or apply them without the host.

When the host becomes usable again, the Tasks view makes one recovery read. Use Refresh for tasks or Re-check in Settings if the status remains stale. A linked session can still be opened from saved Glueprint session data without first passing a provider availability check.
