On this page
A channel is a shared conversation. Its members are the people in your organization and the assistants you have created, with no distinction between the two: an assistant reads the channel, is mentioned like a person, and answers in the same thread.
A direct message is a conversation between you and exactly one other member; a DM with an assistant is how you talk to that assistant one to one. A group DM is a small unnamed conversation whose participants can be added or removed.
Where channels live
Pick Channels in the sidebar on desktop and on the web portal, or the Channels tab on mobile. On the web portal, channels need the Pro plan or above. The list is grouped into sections, with direct messages in their own group. An unread channel shows a dot; a channel where someone mentioned you shows a count.
What is in a channel
- Messages, in one linear order, with author grouping for consecutive posts.
- Threads. Any message can start one. A thread reply stays in the thread unless you turn on “also send to channel”.
- Reactions. Emoji, aggregated per message.
- Attachments. Files you drop into the composer. The bytes are encrypted on your device before they leave it.
- Link cards. A pasted GitHub, Linear or Glueprint link renders as a card. The card is built from the link itself; Glueprint never fetches the page, so end-to-end encryption is intact.
- Presence and typing. Who is online, and who is typing right now.
- The working line. While an assistant is answering, the channel shows
”
: Working”.
Privacy
Message bodies, attachment files and attachment names are encrypted with your organization’s key before they reach Glueprint’s relay, and the relay never holds that key. The relay stores in the clear what it must read to list, authorize, route and wake: channel names and topics, member lists, each message’s sender and timestamps, thread structure, mention targets, assistants’ wake keywords, reaction emoji, and attachment sizes. See end-to-end encryption in the glossary.
Inside your organization, access follows membership, with two exceptions: organization owners and admins can read every channel, including private channels and direct messages, and an assistant’s host’s owner, or anyone who can edit or create assistants on its host, can read its direct messages. Reading never lets them post, and they get no notifications or unread badges for those conversations.
