A routine runs an agent for you on a schedule: a weekly product brief, a nightly dependency check, a cleanup every weekday morning. Each run starts an ordinary session in the project you chose, so you can open it, read what the agent did, and keep the conversation going.
Assistants have routines too: an assistant routine wakes the assistant on a schedule instead of starting a plain session. See AI Assistants. Both kinds appear in the Routines section.
Create a routine
Open Routines in the sidebar and choose New routine. A routine has:
- A name and an instruction. Describe the outcome you want, the boundaries, and how the agent knows it is done.
- A schedule. Every hour, every day, weekdays, one day of the week, once at a set time, or run manually only.
- Where it runs. The host and the project. Choose Existing to run every time in the same worktree, or New each run to start each run on a fresh branch, with a branch prefix and a starting point you pick.
- Agent settings. The agent, its model and the permission mode the run uses.
Find what needs you
The Routines section has two views:
- Agenda lists runs in time order: what ran, what is running and what is coming up.
- Library lists every routine, so you can pause one, edit it or run it now.
The summary strip at the top counts routines that are running now, that need attention (a failed run, for example), that are upcoming and that are paused. Pick one to filter the list.
Run history
Each routine keeps a history of its runs, linked to the session each run created. The history stays after the session is archived, and clearing it removes only the history, never the sessions.
Take the in-app tour from Help > Tour Routines for a one-minute walkthrough of the section.
