How to think about hosts, seats, and teams

  • Host — one machine. Your laptop is a host. A server running the CLI daemon is a host. Each one consumes one host slot.
  • Seat — one human user on your account. Adding a coworker is one seat.
  • Team — one assistant team (a group of assistants and humans working together with a shared board). Not to be confused with seats; you can have many teams with very few humans.

Most solo developers find Pro is the right place to land: it adds cloud relay (which means portal + mobile + multi-machine work), more hosts, and more teams.

What “cloud relay” gets you

Without cloud relay (Free):

  • Everything works locally on one machine.
  • No portal access. No mobile.
  • Sessions don’t sync between machines.

With cloud relay (Pro and up):

  • Sessions sync to the portal and mobile in real time, end-to-end encrypted.
  • Multiple hosts on the same account can be seen in one portal view.
  • Cross-host assistant teams work.
  • Tunnels (where supported) work.

The relay never sees plaintext content. See Cloud Relay & Encryption for the details.

Plan limits are soft

If you downgrade or hit a limit, existing resources keep working. You just can’t create more of the limited resource type until you’re back under the cap.

For example: you’re on Pro with 10 hosts, you downgrade to the base 2-host Pro tier. The other 8 hosts keep running and stay visible in the portal. You can’t activate new ones until you remove some or upgrade.

When to add seats vs. hosts

  • More hosts — when you’re running on more machines (a server, a second laptop, a workstation in addition to a laptop).
  • More seats — when more humans need their own login to the portal and mobile.

A seat doesn’t include a host. A host doesn’t include a seat. You add them independently in the portal under Settings > Billing.

Changing plans

Open the portal, Settings > Billing. Pick the new plan, confirm. Billing prorates for the time remaining in the current cycle.

Downgrades take effect at the end of the current cycle. Upgrades take effect immediately.

What’s included for free

Free is genuinely free. It’s the right starting point for “I just want to see what Glueprint feels like on my laptop.” It includes:

  • The desktop app.
  • One assistant.
  • One host (your machine).
  • All the local features — sessions, git, terminal, editor, tasks, memory.

Free does not include the cloud relay, so portal and mobile aren’t part of the Free experience. The CLI daemon technically runs on Free too — it just won’t sync anywhere.
